Beyond our “Board”ers
The members of GamingEdus have been very busy visiting different school boards and conferences to share our Minecraft messages!
On January 13, 2015, Liam traveled to the Peel District School Board to spend time with 30 teachers for some after school professional learning.
On January 30, 2015, Diana spoke as part of a panel on the Teaching Learning Leadership Program (TLLP) at the Ontario Library Association’s Super Conference.
On March 7, 2015, Denise and Diana attended the York Catholic District School Board’s EdTech Day (#ycdsb21c on Twitter). Diana gave her first public IGNITE talk (which was a new and slightly nerve-wracking experience) and the pair of GamingEdus hung out in the Learning Space to give participants information and play time with Minecraft.

The York Catholic District School Board EdTech conference team (Jennifer, Scott, Vince, Albert, Darlene and others) were absolutely delightful, welcoming, and accommodating. They provided board laptops with Minecraft already installed, great Wi-fi, and mentioned us frequently during the opening address and at lunch, encouraging teachers to come visit our area to chat. I even had a chance to reconnect with some teacher-librarians I had met at other venues in the past. What I really enjoyed was the cross-board collaboration – hearing how York Catholic DSB set technology priorities, seeing how their personable director (Patricia Preston, who even posed with our creeper costume/statue) interacted with her staff, and learning how initiatives spread and grow throughout schools. Thanks York Catholic DSB (and Peel DSB and OLA) for having us!
